DataGroup Technologies (DTI) was born from a vision of our CEO, R. Joe Thigpen, to establish an advanced networking firm capable of supporting the small to mid-size business.  His goal from the beginning was to bring advanced network technologies and support to Eastern North Carolina.   From the beginning, DTI has remained focused on high-quality, cost-efficient business network support.

2001
In 2001 DTI, then called CMG Business Solutions, opened its doors and began providing computer and network support to the local area of Greenville, NC.

2002
DTI launches the first true cluster-based data center in the region.   After one year of research and development, DTI launched our advanced *nix / Windows data center with a group of servers.  We were then able to host our clients websites, DNS, mail, ftp, and other web services without using third party providers.   Our servers were clustered and featured real-time setup processes when other regional providers were manually performing the functions of our automated clusters.   Cluster technology allowed us to run more advanced services with less manpower, yielding faster service and lower costs for our clients.  It also gave our clients the ability to control their web configurations through a secure control panel for realtime 24/7 upgrades.  After 8 years and many upgrades, our data-center remains the standard for Eastern North Carolina.

2003
This was an explosive year for DataGroup as we relocated to a new location, which tripled our datacenter size.   At the same time, both our business and our staff doubled as we introduced managed services to our clients.   Our managed services offering increased the preventative maintenance and network management services our clients received without increasing cost.

2004
DTI traded in our T1 circuits for our very own direct fiber optic connection to the Internet.   At this time, we were the first internet service provider to offer fiber to the rack and multi-gigabit scalability.

2005
This year was a breakout year thanks to our visionary CEO, as DataGroup launched our very own Enterprise Network Management system, which added functionality previously unheard of in Eastern North Carolina.   DTI has invested a quarter of a million dollars in this system to date and still remains one of only a few Managed Service Providers in the state to hold such high level managment systems.   Using this system, DTI now manages hundreds of networks across the state, all of which are monitored, updated, and maintained with our advanced remote technology we call RemTEK.  DTI also began research and developement in the Voice Over IP (VOIP) technology area.

2006
DTI completed research and deployed one of the first Class 5 VOIP Switches in the region and began offering digital phone services to businesses where it had never been available in this region.   Using Voice Over IP technology, DTI now switches phone calls live through our data center for interstate, intrastate, and international calling.   Our clients pay as little as 50% less on telecommunications expenses over the local, traditional carriers.

2007
This year, DataGroup introduced our latest managed service: Disaster Recovery.   Our managed disaster recovery solution now protects businesses from disasters such as fire, flood, and vandalism by backing up critical servers and provides methods for offsiting data for safe keeping.   DTI also introduced managed Endpoint Security as a standard feature of our service agreements.   Each and every client network we manage is protected by our Endpoint Security solution.

2010
Today, DataGroup stands out as one of the most diverse and advanced networking firms in the industry.   We're now staffed with network specialists, web developers, programmers, and engineers with the skills to take any business into the next century.  Our network is utilized by visitors from all over the world and our managed services support clients all over the state of North Carolina.

Over the years we have moved forward by leaps and bounds, but one thing has remained constant: our clients remain the benefactor every step of the way.
